I have written a wide range of fiction stories. While it's gently described, that might be called "violence." On the other hand, the Black Cat cozy mysteries have no violence at all. For example, the sword-wielding medieval romances have heroines who occasionally ward off a robber. My works are all cleanly written with no explicit intimacy, mild if any violence, and mild if any language. I have been publishing under my married name Lisa Shea since 1987 and have published over 450 works here on Amazon. Modern global food production largely relies on “ invasive species” (crops, livestock) that existed only regionally before establishment of the new trade and transport paths. In his book, Mann argues that Columbus paved the way to the homogenocene, a particular feature of the anthropocene that is marked by a global homogenization of (agricultural) species, diseases, and tools brought about by the migration and transport that set in with the discovery of the new world. It follows on from Mann's previous book on the Americas prior to Columbus, 1491: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus. It covers the global effects of the Columbian Exchange, following Columbus first landing in the Americas, that led to our current globalized world civilization. 1491: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbusġ493: Uncovering the New World Columbus Created is a nonfiction book by Charles C. Decadent in the way of nineteenth century “decadent” art. So it’s dark erotic fantasy in Carroll’s signature black and white and (bloody) red. But how can we resist her attractions?! And she’s a shape-changer: one of the most alarming and amazing sequences happens as cat-girl watches the Countess at her dressing table. The Countess is a vampire, a femme fatale, alluring and dangerous and creepy, the flame to the cat-girl’s moth. What happens later is the sex part, which gets murky and complicated, as in dreams. It’s an ode here to literature, to fairy tales that scare and seduce us. The cat-girl is led to a series of (red) doors, behind each a tragic fairy tale she must navigate to survive and remain sane. She is surprised to find that the Countess is waiting for her. We don’t know why, but she isn’t the first to try. Here’s a bit of what happens: A cat-eared human visits a Countess’ castle to kill her. I am a huge fan of Emily Carroll, and very much like When I Arrived at the Castle, which might best be described as a lesbian horror fairy tale. Eventually we stopped visiting him altogether, and I think he went away some time after that: all we could see was long grass. By the time anyone thought to ‘consult the buffalo’, our problem was usually urgent and required a straightforward and immediate solution. In fact, he never said anything because water buffalos are like that they hate talking. But he never said what he was pointing at, or how far we had to go, or what we were supposed to do once we got there. Then he would come up to us slowly, raise his left hoof and literally point us in the right direction. He slept most of the time, and ignored everybody who walked past, unless we happened to stop and ask him for advice. A kid, there was a big water buffalo living in the vacant lot at the end of our street, the one with the grass no one ever mowed. Since the police seem satisfied that they have cracked the case, Audre sets out herself to find out what really happened to Elle. Audre’s father, who is researching the occult for his book, is detained by the police in connection with Elle’s disappearance. Then Elle goes missing, and the dress she was wearing when she disappeared turns up in the woods soaked in blood at what looks like the site of a Satanic ritual. Luckily, Audre has befriended David, a fellow outsider who moved there from Puerto Rico, and feels drawn to Elle, the daughter of a local preacher for whom her feelings might be stronger than friendship. When Audre Weaver and her family moved from Brooklyn to a small town in Pennsylvania, she really didn’t fit in-she was sent home from school the first day for violating the dress code with her purple nail polish, and she was taken aback by seeing the Ten Commandments posted in her public high school. A girl is determined to find her missing crush when the town blames the disappearance on Satanists. One of the advantages of that has been that I’ve always felt my faith was truly my own. During the course of my childhood, my parents were very much finding their own faith as well. I was born into a mixed-Christian family, my mum coming from a Catholic background and my dad from the Church of England. Pastor caught up with McLaughlin to hear more about her story of faith and intellectual pursuit, what Christian leaders can do to better prepare themselves and their congregations for the concerns and confrontation of non-Christians, and why our advocacy for our faith must begin with listening and center on love. “I love exploring the message of Jesus with broken people (all of us),” she writes, “and I long to be part of the rediscovery of the Christian faith as an intellectual movement.” Outreach Editor-at-Large Paul J.
